'Nice For What' — Celebrates all Women.♡
Word on the street is Drake's new album will be releasing soon & what a tasteful surprise he leaves us with ― 'Nice For What' new single and music video.
At first, I listened to the single on Apple Music and I thought it was pretty smooth. I then noticed the video was on YouTube & immediately after watching, it all made since & the track alone elevated in it's meaning.
It's a celebration for us ladies.♡
The video features such iconic change agents in the game ― Tracee Ellis Ross, Tiffany Haddish, Yara Shahidi, Misty Copeland, Issa Rae, Letitia Wright, Zoe Saldana and the list goes on. I think what I admire most about this track is the upbeat tempo & Drake acknowledging that not all women need another slow song to harp on our woes or past conflictions. This, I can appreciate 100%.
This track is for sure an anthem that we can all crank up after a long day of work, studying, going through a breakup or you just feel really damn good about yourself ― Because you deserve it.
What's most notable is a snippet of "Ex Factor" from Icon Lauryn Hill's hit album 'Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' (1998) playing throughout the track ― This definitely sets the tone for the message Drake highlights:
FREE UP YA SELF MAMMA.
I love that this is such a feel good vibe & really reaffirms the "Hard-working, independent, handle her own, boss-up Woman" notion. Idc, idc ― I love it & I'm here for it.
To anyone going through a rough time or just need a little positive energy, crank this tune, twerk a lil', smile in the mirror & know that you are winning in life. You are making the world a better place. Through your dark times, you will always come out on top. Let this tune be a reminder that it's all yours & it's alright to show off since you've worked so hard to get to where you are today [Mentally, emotionally & physically].
